Alva- Filled with So Much Grace

Alva is a an Irish, Dublin-based contemporary gospel singer that some how stumbled upon a friend Allison Sattinger's song "So Much Grace"  She's got that big voice that can handle a big orchestra behind her.  I think I should look deeper into her music, any one who the tastes to like an angel's song of grace should be one that gets my attention.



I'll share you time hunting around my site... this is the third time this song has appeared in the blog.

God knows I love these two but for you let's just say that you would be special to run into them live because of all of life's demands and the great 40 hour a week job. Let's not ever dismay either but relish how when you can catch it live like Jeremy did in the video below....relish it... maybe buy them a wine or beer afterward, and ultimately just befriend them.

It's been a while since Allison posted any new video... is this weird... but wasn't there a show about watching Ed alll day... ok I just want her to sit down once a day, sing a song and post it... ok I suppose that's what happens in heaven... until then, I'll take a few glimpse of heaven.

If I ever wake up to hear a song of mine be sung 9 women, I'm sure I'll start sobbing... when I found it and sent it to Allison, she just responded "DAVE OMG"... it couldn't have happened to a better person. Here's the video description:

California in my Mind

A little video on a favorite song from my Gypsy Soul iTune released CD. The song started as a harmless seductive play on a line from Allison Sattinger, but turned into desperate lonely song of a man wanting this haunting California image in his head. If you dice and slice reality into it's truths this song falls apart, so let's just let it play out for the imagery that was enhanced by a few of Allison's other songs too.

Ok... so by now you all know that Allison Sattinger is a regular in this blog, and a multi Zemmy Winner. Her Across the Room song was a winner in the inaugrual year for most sultry song. If you never have heard it... run out and buy it on iTunes... or at least give a listen.



Now she didn't ask me, but one morning I had this itch to change the perspective, because as my wife will tell you... I'm an Eye man. So I tweaked the words to what I think a guy might say without really changing the meaning too much.

I am filled with So Much Grace

Ok... it's been a few weeks since Allison played my fledgling house concert series... and I'm still getting goosebumps listening to her cover of Spoon River... I promise to share it... until then, I noticed I never posted this little photo montage to her wonderful gospel tinged love song.

Spoon River

Sometimes you get caught up in history by the love of a song, especially when it's well done. That's how the subconsicious has been since Allison Sattinger and Matt Coleman covered Michael Smith's Spoon River at my recent house concert.

I forgot that 20 years ago we saw a Viterbo College play based on the Edgar Lee Master's Spoon River Anthology, and I forgot how rich the writing was in the novel. Now I am no reader but I intend to spend some time at http://spoonriveranthology.net. Lately my writing time has dwindled to dust time, so I think I need to read and write again. I think I'm going to give up listening to music... HA... well maybe less..

What a wonderful night... Thanks Allison, Matt and Phil

Let's see the normal pressures were there... the band was running late... a few people called late and said they couldn't make it... twice during the day I ran into people who thought it was an outside concert and it was raining all day... I thought all these things spelled doom... even Allison admitted later she was having a day leaving her sister after two short days... but all the hassles evaporated and a great night was had by all!

I loved the fact that Allison, Matt and Phil fell in love with Claudia Schmidt's version of Spoon River and covered it as a surprise to me... the recording worked out fantastic... what a piece of gold from the night.

I even had my nephew and his neighbor drive 2 1/2 hours to catch the second set; that plus a few new guests I hope we made a lasting impression with and join us for many more concerts. Here are a few pictures from the night.

Allison Sattinger
For the past several months, I have been listening to singer songwriter Allison Sattinger. I first found her among Terra Naomi's top MySpace friends. I figured if she was liked by one of my favorite YouTube-turned-major-label artists, I would probably like her as well. After listening to all the songs on her MySpace playlist and watching nearly every video on her YouTube account, I realized that "like" was the wrong word—I absolutely adore this woman's music.

Allison's lyrics are heartfelt and her music is piano pop with a Gospel edge. She writes about life, love, and love lost. No matter what she's singing, whether an original or cover, you always believe everything that passes her lips. Recently she did a cover of Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time" that had me in tears. Reading the comments posted beneath the YouTube video, I found I was not the only one touched by her rendition of the song.

Now if you are not familiar with Terra who is Allison's close friend in LA... here's one of my favorite songs of her's... and you haven't watched it... get going... this video has had 3,000,000+ views... where have you been... HA..

Here's a little taste of what's in store with an original from Matt, ...boy... I love Allison's scatting. It reminds me a lot of Claudia Schmidt when she got in a groove.

A couple covers...

A song that Chip Taylor and Kendel wrote, and the line in the 3rd verse that goes, "Crying Rearview Mirror Tears" became the title for Kendel's first solo cd produced by Chip on Trainwreck records.

I quickly just overplayed this song two years ago when I first got it... what a simply sad and wistful tale of a girl abused who runs away. Having only one son, we preach at him to teach all women with respect. I do understand all the ways of the world are pushing against men behaving themselves with common dignity, love and respect for women. I pray we make strides daily.



Now I had a few minutes and to think of the most favorite song I've been playing lately, it was a Tom Paxton song that our group re-learned for a 50th anniversary party. While I an lp of Tom singing this song, it was nothing until he sang it in a trio with Bob Gibson and Ann Hills... find this rare cd recording of a live show..it's awesome. I would dedicate this to my angel friend Allison Sattinger and her beau Anthony would recently moved 6 hours north LA... but they are always home.
