You know I shouldn't be bitter, but we're all human and sometimes the worse emotions sneak in. A friend and fellow blog writer, Clay Rieness sold out the Pump House, and Tracy maybe had 35 people when she came to LaCrosse the first time. I hear a long time local player Johnsmith is now playing the Pump House and it too is sold out, while The Pine House concert might have 18 or 28 people depending on the maybes. Good for John and Clay, bad for the music industry. This was the first year I saw Tracy, and she was excellent. What got me thinking about the tie in to attendance was the video's description:
"Tracy Grammer and Jim Henry at the Gravity Lounge Sept 26, 2007. Unfortunately for Bob Dylan all the REALLY cool people in Charlottesville went to see Tracy rather than he and Elvis C." Maybe it's all about being cool... I'll have to work on that HA.

A Zemmy Nominee - Ordinary Town
As usual this time of year I take some time looking back at my iTunes and see what I have been listening to... and this song from a Cd purchased at a Tracy Grammer CD is up toward the top. I was lucky to find a nice video of it.

The Mountain
Last March we enjoyed listening to Tracy Grammer, and one of her stories about her soul mate Dave Carter was listening to his hero, Joan Baez sing his song, The Mountain.. I did my usual search on iTunes to find Joan's cover but to no avail. So why don't you all email Joan to get it released

or yell the request to her August 7th at the Big Top. Don't try to get tickets they are already sold out.
Until then enjoy Tracy sing the song:
Here are the lyrics to The Mountain :
I was born in a forked-tongued story,
raised up by merchants and drugstore liars.
Now I walk on the paths of glory,
one foot in ice, one in fire.
I see the mountain, the mountain comes to me,
I see the mountain and that is all I see.
Some poor prophet comes, some find solace,
some lay him down in a junkyard bay.
Some will chase us and some will call us,
gone, gone, gone in a day.
gone to the mountain, the mountain comes to me,
i see the mountain and that is all I see.
Miller take me and miller grind me,
scatter by bones on the wild green tide.
Maybe some roving bird will find me,
over the water we'll ride.
over the mountain, the mountain comes to me,
I see the mountain and that is all I see.
Some build temples and some find altars,
some come in tall hats and robes spun fine.
Some in rags, some in gemstone halters,
some push the pegs back in line.
I see the mountain, the mountain comes to me,
I see the mountain and that is all I see.

Gentle Arms of Eden
Stan Rogers, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, and now Dave Carter....
Over the last few years I have discovered more about Dave Carter, but after Tracy Grammer's concert in LaCrosse, this new song to me has become a favorite... hope you also discover the late, great Dave Carter.

Dreams of Dave Carter
Tonight Lori and I were lucky enough to have a night off and a push from a friend from Steven Point, and blink we had tickets to see Tracy Grammer. Oh how wonderful she was. Yes as a solo act she is comfortable telling us stories the stretch the time but captivated the moment. She was with Dave Carter for over 7 years and what a writer he was. I didn't hear them until a few years ago after he was suddenly taken from us with a heartache. Now thanks to YouTube, I can see that a concert of the two together must have been a treat to the senses.

Tracy Grammer
A few years back they announced at the Great River Folk Festival that Dave Carter died of a sudden heart ache.... Lori and I looked at each other like, "Who?"... since I've appreciated how wonderful a writer he was and his wife has continued on to sing his songs, hers, and others... and we're going to see her at the Pump House on Friday night.
Here's a song that I was playing one day and my opinionated teenage son came in the room and said, "Cool song".. that's high praise.
Tracy Grammer, Jim Henry and Guy DeVito perform at Middle Earth in Bradford, Vermont on March 30, 2007.
